The territory that today the city of Apaseo el Alto occupies was populated by Otomi, who called it Atlayahualco, which means “Place of springs” or “Where irrigation surrounds the earth”.
A must to visit is the Temple “Sagrado corazón de Jesus”, the “Puente de la Calle Real”, the Aqueduct “El Arco” and the Temple of San Andrés Apóstol.
The main vocation of this city is wood carving, having several artists recognized for their traditional techniques and which is reflected in their high quality pieces.
