La Montañita

Within the reserve, there are two dams and water reservoirs which are crucial to San Diego de la Union’s water management. These reservoirs also provide recreational opportunities for tourists, who can enjoy activities such as fishing, camping, cycling, bird watching, and hiking.
The Mexican government designated Peña Alta as a protected area in 1998 to preserve its natural beauty and biodiversity.
San Franco Dam.
