The Mexican Association of Sommeliers recognized leaders in the wine industry during the 2026 National Sommelier Competition held in San Miguel de Allende.
As part of the activities of the Wine Week Held in Guanajuato, the Mexican Sommeliers Association A.C. recognized outstanding individuals and institutions that promote wine culture in Mexico through the National Sommelier Competition 2026, awarding Viñedo San Miguel the prize for Best Winery of the Year.
For the Government of the People of the Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo and the Secretariat of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI), this recognition of Viñedo San Miguel confirms the positioning that Guanajuato has achieved in the Mexican wine industry thanks to the quality of its labels, the innovation in its processes, and the commitment of its producers to strengthen wine culture.
This awards ceremony was held in San Miguel de Allende, one of the country's most representative enogastronomic tourism destinations, to commemorate International Sommelier Day. It brought together sommeliers, producers, chefs, specialists, media, and representatives of the national wine sector.
The event was part of the commemorative activities for International Sommelier Day, a date that recognizes the professionals responsible for interpreting wine, communicating its origin, and connecting consumers with the stories, territories, and people who make each bottle possible.
During the meeting, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato, Lupita Robles León, recognized the work of those who make up the wine value chain and the fundamental role played by sommeliers in promoting wine culture.
“Yes, producers are the ones who transform the land into wine, sommeliers are the ones who transform a glass into an experience. They are the ones who interpret the vineyard's work, communicate the origin, tell the story behind each label, and create the link between wine, gastronomy, culture, and people,” highlighted the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato.
The holder of the Secretariat of Tourism and Identity he pointed out that these types of meetings strengthen the "Government of the People's" strategy to consolidate Guanajuato as a national and international benchmark for gastronomic and wine tourism, while also promoting public policy Guanajuato Knows!.
In addition to recognizing Viñedo San Miguel as Winery of the Year, the Mexican Sommeliers Association presented the following awards:
- Lourdes Martínez Ojeda, Winemaker of the Year.
- Manuel Negrete, Sommelier of the Year.
- Viñedo San Miguel, Winery of the Year.
- Dr. Joaquín Madero, Posthumous Tribute.
- Miguel Jáuregui, National Sommelier Champion 2026.
The 2026 National Sommelier Champion title obtained by Miguel Jáuregui, made the expert the best sommelier in Mexico after overcoming the different stages of the competition, considered one of the most important for the professionalization and promotion of wine culture in the country.
Likewise, participants were part of an agenda that included the Master Class “The Wines of Guanajuato, given by the Guanajuato Grape and Wine Association; the round table “Global Wine Consumption: Challenges for the Future”; specialized tastings, academic encounters, and wine tourism experiences at vineyards and wineries in the state.
“Undoubtedly, this international trust is the result of the joint work of producers, associations, academic institutions, specialized agencies, and authorities who have believed in the potential of this land,” highlighted the Secretary of Tourism and Identity.
