León will host the XVI National Congress of MPI Mexico Chapter 2026, which will take place from July 15 to 17.
Guanajuato continues to consolidate itself as one of the leading destinations for meetings tourism in Mexico with the confirmation of León as the host city for the XVI National Congress of MPI Mexico Chapter 2026, which will be held from July 15 to 17, in various venues around the city.
In the Government of the People of Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo and the Secretariat of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI), we recognize this important meeting that will bring together MICE industry professionals (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions), associations, strategic buyers, event organizers, destination representatives, and specialized suppliers, strengthening the state's positioning within the national and international circuit of congresses and conventions.
The Congress is organized by MPI Mexico Chapter, an association founded in 2000 and considered the largest in the meetings industry in Latin America, with over 200 active members and a global network of more than 12,000 members.
The 2026 edition includes keynote speeches, panels, and networking spaces focused on sustainability, innovation, trends, and challenges in the meetings industry, in addition to promoting business alliances and opportunities for the tourism and business sectors.
Among the main objectives of the Congress are:
- Position Guanajuato as a competitive destination for international congresses and events.
- Promote tourism and meetings as engines of economic development.
- Strengthen the professionalization of the MICE sector.
- Increase the attractiveness of international events.
- Promote sustainability and collaboration between the public and private sectors.
The MPI Mexico National Congress has had 16 editions and over 3,000 cumulative participants throughout its history. Additionally, it has hosted over 100 national and international speakers and mobilized over 280 high-level buyers at various venues across the country.
It should be noted that Guanajuato was also the host of this meeting in 2013, when León and San Miguel de Allende hosted the VII National Congress of MPI Mexico, consolidating the state's relevance in the meetings tourism segment since then.
As part of the preparations for the 2026 edition, an inspection visit was carried out from December 1st to 3rd, 2025, in the city of León, with the objective of evaluating infrastructure, connectivity, services, and operational capabilities to ensure the success of the event.
The work agenda was coordinated by the Directorate of Event Attraction and Cinematography of the Secretariat of Tourism and Identity, in conjunction with municipal authorities, representatives of the hotel industry, and the Congress organizers.
With events of this magnitude, Guanajuato reaffirms its leadership as a strategic destination for the development of meetings tourism in Mexico, boosting the economy, tourism promotion, and the strengthening of the industry specialized in events and conferences.
