- SECTURI reiterates its commitment to supporting families affected by alleged travel agency fraud.

The Government of the People is working to strengthen support for travelers and propose preventive measures with tourism agencies.
Regarding this, the head of the Secretariat of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI), María Guadalupe Robles León, held a working meeting in coordination with the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO), the President of the Association of Hotels and Motels of León, Eduardo Bujaidar, and representatives of tourism organizations such as the Mexican Federation of Tourism Associations (FEMATUR), the Council of Tourism Organizations and Services (CONETUR), and the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV); to reinforce mechanisms for prevention and attention to people affected by alleged breaches of contract and possible fraud related to this type of service provider.
During the meeting held with the Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office, a series of coordinated actions were agreed upon aimed at prevention, professionalization, and strengthening the relationship between travel agencies and consumers.
As a first area of work, PROFECO will conduct training sessions for travel agencies, in coordination with the main sector associations: FEMATUR, CONETUR, and AMAV, through the “Responsible Provider” program, with the objective that agencies gain a clearer understanding of their rights and obligations regarding consumer protection.
Complementarily, a campaign to regularize and strengthen adhesion contracts between travel agencies and PROFECO will be promoted, seeking to provide greater legal certainty and transparency in the provision of tourism services.
Likewise, joint work will be done on the development of a decalogue of consumer rights when contracting travel agencies, as an informative and preventive tool.
Additionally, a preventive campaign will be developed targeting travelers and tourists, with practical recommendations on aspects they should verify before hiring tourist services, in order to reduce risks and promote safer and more informed purchasing decisions.
In a supportive capacity, communication and institutional coordination are maintained with the State Attorney General's Office of Guanajuato, an agency that, within its areas of competence, will exhaust all necessary lines of investigation to bring those responsible to justice and provide certainty to the victims.
Therefore, the public is called upon to report any similar situations. Formal reporting allows investigations to be strengthened, lines of action to be expanded, and prevents more people from being affected.
