Guanajuato Wines Conquer Armenia and Place Guanajuato as the Second Most Awarded Wine State in Mexico at the 2026 Brussels World Competition

The excellence of Guanajuato wines once again stood out on the international stage during the 34th edition of the Brussels World Competition (BWC) 2026, held from May 21 to 23 English Yerevan, Armenia, where the state received 52 recognitions, solidifying itself as the second most awarded state in Mexico.

This year, Guanajuato ranked just below Baja California and above Coahuila, confirming the growth, quality, and competitiveness of its wine industry.

Guanajuato, second place nationally in recognitions

The national ranking by number of awards was as follows:

• Baja California – 88 awards
• Guanajuato – 52 awards
• Coahuila – 47 awards

The awards won by the Guanajuato labels were:

• 2 Grand Gold Medals (Gran Pago de Ricardo Vega 2021, from Viñedo Cuna de Tierra, and Syrah 2023*, from Viñedos San Miguel).
• 12 Gold Medals
• 10 Silver Medals
• 27 WBC Merit Awards
• 1 Special Award: “Revelation Wine” for Ricardo Vega's Gran Pago 2023.

A total of 13 vineyards located in five municipalities in Guanajuato received awards: San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo (Cradle of National Independence), San Felipe, Comonfort, and León.

The best Mexican wine comes from Guanajuato

Among the most notable results of this edition is the award given to Gran Pago de Ricardo Vega 2021, from Cuna de Tierra Vineyard, who was distinguished as the Best Mexican Wine at the Brussels World Competition 2026, one of the highest distinctions a national brand can receive in this prestigious international competition.

In addition, Gran Pago de Ricardo Vega 2023 received a special recognition as “Wine of the Year,” reaffirming the quality, innovation, and consistency of the wines produced in Guanajuato.

Along with this significant achievement, the 2023 Syrah from Viñedos San Miguel also won a Grand Gold Medal, further cementing Guanajuato’s place among the world’s leading wine-producing regions.

With 52 international awards, second place nationally in terms of the number of awards, and the title of Best Mexican Wine in the competition, Guanajuato reaffirms its leadership as one of Mexico’s premier wine destinations.

These results reflect the talent, dedication, and vision of Guanajuato’s winemakers, who have made the state a national and international leader in the wine industry.
