Temple of San Diego de Alcántara
The construction of this temple, promoted by the Franciscans, began in 1667 and, after suffering several floods, was finally completed in 1784.
Its pink quarry façade, worked in great detail, is an outstanding example of the Churrigueresque style. With a Latin cross plan, the temple is located right in front of Jardín Unión, formerly known as Plaza de San Diego, a place where a popular tianguis was set up in colonial times.
Inside it houses a valuable collection of paintings from the 18th century, as well as the image of the Christ of Burgos, a gift from the Count of Valenciana, and a representation of the Immaculate Conception dating from 1735.
Its baroque organ, built in the second half of the eighteenth century, also stands out, a piece that further enriches the artistic heritage of the enclosure.
