SECTURI promotes Guanajuato's identity among young people through immersive experiences in historical territories.
The Government of the People, through the Ministry of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI), is integrating young people with the Guanajuato Identity Agents Program to walk through the historic streets of León and generate roots with young people so that they become promoters of identity.
This time with the participation of 60 students from the Universidad Tecnológica de León (UTL), they took an experiential tour of the emblematic Barrio Arriba, one of the founding areas of the city and a hotbed of tradition, culture and industry.
This program, commissioned by the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, is part of the state's strategy to strengthen the dissemination of Guanajuato's identity, bringing young people closer to the places that have shaped the history and character of the state. Its purpose is to promote the new generations as positive spokespeople for Guanajuato, encouraging them to speak well of the destination, understand its roots and recognize the heritage value of each municipality.
The tour allowed the students to explore, walk and feel the essence of the neighborhood through its architecture, its traditional cuisine and its history deeply linked to the development of León.
During the experience, the students visited the most representative points of Barrio Arriba, among them: Jardín Allende and its historical kiosk, Parroquia del Señor de la Salud, Panadería Muñoz and Salón México, Museo de la Fama Pasión León, Los Altares and Plazoleta de San Nicolás Tolentino, Antiguo Hospital Juárez, Tenería tradicional, Templo del Señor del Calvario, Plazoleta de San Francisco and Reloj de Sol, Pulquería “La Catrina”.
The day included tastings of León's gastronomy, traditional jelly, homemade juices, homemade bread and pulque from Marca Guanajuato, as well as a space for socializing in the Jardín Allende.
The tour made it possible to understand the historical significance of Barrio Arriba, a territory located 650 meters north of the current Historic Center, in an area surrounded by ancient springs and rivers.
It was a border with Nueva Galicia, connected to the Camino Real de la Plata and the route to Comanja. It was populated since the 16th century by various indigenous nations and castes, later becoming a tannery, shoemaker and saddlery district.
It reached its industrial peak in the twentieth century with the growth of textiles, tanning and leather. It is the birthplace of Club León and the historic Unión de Curtidores, two symbols of the city's soccer passion.
The Agents of Identity Program seeks to encourage students, service providers, communities and visitors to recognize the living history of the state, identify with its heritage, become promoters of Guanajuato's identity, spread the message of pride and belonging and strengthen the tourism narrative of the Government of the People, promoted by SECTURI.
These actions consolidate the vision of the governor of the people, Libia Dennise García, to promote tourism with identity, with roots and that recognizes the value of its people in each of the tourist communities of the state and its seven regions.
