San Miguel de Allende reaffirms its role as one of Mexico's major tourist destinations during the swearing in of the new CANIRAC San Miguel de Allende board of directors, an event headed by the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the State of Guanajuato, María Guadalupe Robles León.

On behalf of the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, the Secretary emphasized that the restaurant sector is a permanent ally in the construction of tourism with identity, competitiveness and high added value.

“To speak of San Miguel de Allende is to speak of identity, history and international prestige. But it is also to talk about gastronomy. San Miguel is not only walked or admired; San Miguel is savored. And its restaurants confirm why it is a World Heritage Site and one of the great prides of Guanajuato,” he said.

During the event, the work of Paco Aguirre at the head of CANIRAC was recognized and Héctor Ignacio Aguilar Uriarte was welcomed as incoming president, highlighting the strategic role played by restaurants as tourism ambassadors, generators of employment and promoters of local products.

San Miguel's terraces, kitchens and tables are an international showcase that projects elegance, professionalism and a high standard of service, consolidating the city as a reference for international tourism and high value.

In 2025, San Miguel de Allende closed with 2,190,000 visitors and an economic revenue of 8,564 million pesos.

At the state level, Guanajuato exceeded 23.8 million visitors and achieved a revenue of more than 57 billion pesos, confirming that tourism is a real driver of economic and social development.

The Secretary emphasized that San Miguel de Allende is a fundamental axis of the state's ENOGASTROTURISM strategy, one of the global megatrends in tourism, which integrates signature cuisine, traditional cuisine, wines from the Independence Valley, tequila and mezcal with denomination of origin and craft beers.

All under the public policy Guanajuato ¡Sí Sabe!, which positions culinary identity as a driver of development.

This 2026, Guanajuato breaks new ground with the strengthening of its Gastronomic Season, which will begin with one of the most important events in San Miguel de Allende: Millesime GNP Weekend, integrating more than 25 gastronomic events throughout the state.

The Gastronomic Season is a program that articulates festivals, culinary experiences, chef meetings, traditional cuisine and contemporary proposals, triggering hotel nights, restaurant consumption, activation of local suppliers and international projection of the destination.

The Secretariat will promote a competitiveness program to improve the quality of restaurants and consumption centers, strengthen festivals and consolidate the promotion of wine and contemporary gastronomy.

“I am convinced that with the leadership of CANIRAC San Miguel de Allende we will continue to promote Guanajuato as a gastronomic destination par excellence. The invitation is open to add more activities to this great season,” said the Secretary.
