With Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, San Miguel de Allende has now been named one of travelers’ favorite destinations worldwide ten times.
San Miguel de Allende once again takes its place on the international tourism stage by earning fourth place among the best small cities in the world, according to the Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 of the specialized magazine Condé Nast Traveler, one of the leading awards in the travel industry.
For the Government of the People led by Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, this recognition, in which the destination has also participated for 10 years, is for our people: for those who welcome every visitor with a smile, for those who keep our traditions alive and for those who make tourism an opportunity for development.
In addition, this year we moved from fifth place to fourth place; with this result, the destination advances one position compared to 2025, when it occupied fifth place.
Recall that the participation of San Miguel de Allende in the awards has been specifically in 2013, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. This participation has consolidated its visibility among travelers from different parts of the world.
The 2026 edition of the Readers’ Choice Awards gathered 798,867 votes from readers worldwide, according to the available information about the awards, which also noted that voting closed on June 30 and the results were announced, as every year, in the first days of October.
This is the 39th edition of the Readers’ Choice Awards, and since 1987, when the first survey was conducted, Condé Nast readers vote for their favorite destinations, as well as hotels, resorts, islands, cruise lines, airlines and airports, highlighting the best of each category.
The results of this survey of travelers, for which voting closed on June 30, 2026, will appear in the print and online editions of the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

The magazine was “established in 1987 and designed for the experienced, discerning and frequent traveler, with a wide variety of travel experiences and information covering frequent flyer programs, art, fashion, architecture, culture, gastronomy and shopping in a variety of destinations worldwide,” says the publisher itself.
This international travel magazine focuses on the luxury and lifestyle segments, and is designed for the person who travels constantly and has a strong interest in leisure activities.
In addition, it features six issues a year and provides specialized content for the traveler, ranging from the latest in hotels, the best tourist destinations in the world, the most innovative restaurants, and exclusive spas, to adventure travel.
And this year it highlights the attributes that make San Miguel de Allende one of the two World Heritage Cities that we have in Guanajuato: its architecture, historical heritage, cultural wealth, gastronomic offerings, artistic expressions and lodging options, elements that make up a tourism experience that invites visitors to discover and enjoy the identity of Guanajuato.
For the Government of the People and the Secretariat of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato (SECTURI), this result represents an opportunity to strengthen international promotion of the state, broaden interest in its cultural and gastronomic experiences, and invite travelers to discover the diversity of its seven tourist regions and its 46 municipalities.
Because through the strategy Guanajuato SUMA, of the Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo , we continue to promote actions to expand the opportunities generated by tourism, strengthen the participation of communities, and link the attractions of each destination with the people, companies, and entrepreneurs who bring life to the tourism industry.
