During the 64th Assembly of the Secretaries and Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico (ASETUR), held in the Hall of the Muses of the Leonora Carrington Museum, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the Government of the People, Lupita Robles León, consolidated Guanajuato's tourism and cultural collaboration with San Luis Potosí and Catemaco, by thanking the participation in the Day of the Dead festivities of Guanajuato Capital in the Seventh Festival of the Dead.
Robles León highlighted the vision of the Governor of the State of Guanajuato, who extended a formal invitation to the Governor of San Luis Potosí, José Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, to strengthen tourism and cultural cooperation between the two entities.
“Tourism not only promotes visits to our destinations; it is a bridge that unites the identity of our peoples and the strength of our cultures. Guanajuato and San Luis Potosí share history, roads and now celebrations that enhance our roots,” said Robles León.
This rapprochement, he said, reinforces the warmth and institutional respect that distinguishes the relationship between the two states, as well as their willingness to promote their traditions, towns and emblematic festivals together.
During the meeting, progress was made in the coordinated work between the states for the regulation of digital lodging platforms, such as Airbnb and Expedia, in order to ensure a level playing field for all tourism service providers.
The opening of dialogue in ASETUR will allow the design of joint mechanisms to strengthen the sector's tax collection, formality and transparency, without slowing down innovation and technological development.
The meeting was chaired by the association's president, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Quintana Roo's Secretary of Tourism. In his message, Cueto Riestra highlighted the objectives of the assembly aimed at institutional strengthening and interstate cooperation to consolidate tourism as a national economic engine.
During the development of the agenda, topics such as the restructuring of ASETUR's Board of Directors, the progress report of the association, the invitation to the X World Gastronomy Forum in Morelos, and the presentation of the “Riquezas del Sureste / Viaja 4T” program by the ISSSTE, which are travel packages for eligible persons and a way to promote towns and destinations throughout the country, were discussed.
Also presented was the ASETUR-Hughes Strategic Alliance, promoted by Llorente & Cuenca Mexico (LLYC), which seeks to bring free satellite connectivity for two years to selected rural tourist communities, accompanied by digital training to promote community and sustainable tourism.
The session concluded with the recognition of the commitment of the participating states to work together in favor of a more sustainable, competitive tourism with a social identity.
Lupita Robles León reaffirmed that Guanajuato will continue to be a strategic ally in the promotion of Mexican culture and the preservation of the traditions that give us our identity.
“Our governor has promoted a tourism policy based on the pride of being from Guanajuato, on the value of our roots and on the collaboration with sister states. We thank San Luis Potosí for joining our celebrations of the Seventh Festival of the Dead of Guanajuato Capital, a space where Mexico is reunited with its history and its spirit,” he concluded.
