- Starting October 3, the Bajío International Airport has a new direct connection to Vancouver, Canada, the sixth international market for Guanajuato.
- The route, operated by Flair Airlines, is the first direct air connection between Canada and the Bajío region and the airport's first international route to a destination outside the United States.
Guanajuato opens a new path to Canada with the launch of the direct air route between the international airports of Bajío (BJX) and Vancouver (YVR), a connection that strengthens the state’s international presence and brings more travelers closer to its destinations, experiences, and communities.
As part of the vision of Government of the People, led by Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, Guanajuato is strengthening its air connectivity to open up new opportunities for tourism, economic and social development, as well as to bring the state closer to new international markets.
Operated by Flair Airlines, this new route is the first direct air connection between Canada and the Bajío region, and the first international route from the Guanajuato airport to a destination outside the United States.

On the inaugural flight, 104 passengers arrived in Guanajuato from Vancouver, while 118 travelers departed from the state for Canada, marking the start of a new stage in the region’s international connectivity.
The connection is of particular importance for Guanajuato due to the behavior of the Canadian market. Currently, the state receives more than 108,000 visitors from Canada annually, who generate an economic impact of over 260 million pesos, according to state figures.
From Vancouver, travelers will have a new gateway to the heart of Mexico and will be able to connect with destinations such as Guanajuato Capital, San Miguel de Allende, León and Dolores Hidalgo, as well as discover an offering that brings together heritage, culture, gastronomy, wines, nature, art and experiences built on the identity of their communities.
For the Government of the People, this new route represents an opportunity to continue strengthening air connectivity and expanding the paths so that the benefits of tourism reach more regions, service providers, businesses, and families in Guanajuato.
The Secretariat of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) works in coordination with the Pacific Airport Group (GAP), the airlines and industry players to consolidate new connections that allow Guanajuato to continue projecting itself to international markets and for more visitors to discover the wealth that exists in its 46 municipalities.
“Every new air connection means opening a door for more people to get to know our identity, our flavors, our heritage, and above all, our people. Today Guanajuato is opening a new path to Canada and we want every traveler who arrives to find stories they want to take with them and share”, noted María Guadalupe Robles León, Secretary of Tourism and Identity.
The BJX–Vancouver route begins operating on October 3 with one flight per week, every Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Service is operated with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Guanajuato expands its connectivity
Bajío International Airport continues to grow steadily. From January to August 2026 it handled more than 2 million passengers, and it is currently served by seven airlines, strengthening its role as one of the main air connectivity hubs in central Mexico.
With the addition of Vancouver, the network now has 13 international routes and 9 domestic ones. The new connection stands out especially because it is the first regular international route from Guanajuato to a country other than the United States.
During 2026, air service has also performed favorably compared to the previous year, exceeding 2025 levels in January, February, March, July and August.
International connectivity also has expansion prospects with the planned direct Bajío–Madrid route, to be operated by Air Europa and announced for 2027, initially with two weekly flights and with the goal of starting operations in the first quarter of the year.
“Adding this route would represent a strategic step forward by providing direct connectivity with Europe and expanding the international reach of Bajío International Airport”, explained the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato.
With this new international connection, Guanajuato continues to open up new paths, strengthening its air connectivity and adding opportunities for tourism to continue being a driving force for development, identity, and well-being for the communities.
