The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, headed a meeting with the Ambassador of Spain in Mexico, Juan Duarte Cuadrado, with the purpose of strengthening bilateral relations and consolidating Guanajuato's participation in FITUR 2026 from January 21 to 25, the most important tourism fair in the world, where Mexico will be the guest of honor.
During the meeting, the Governor emphasized that this approach consolidates the state's preparations for its presence at FITUR and reaffirms the vision of the Government of the People to promote economic and tourism development through knowledge, international cooperation and the promotion of Guanajuato's talent.
“We were with the governor and the Spanish ambassador. We are already preparing our visit to FITUR 2026, where Mexico will be the guest country. Spain is our second largest international market, representing more than 200,000 visitors a year, and we want Guanajuato to continue to be the face of Mexican hospitality,” said María Guadalupe Robles León, Secretary of Tourism and Identity.
The Spanish market occupies a key position for Guanajuato, representing 7% of total international tourists in 2024, with 201,283 visitors.
The strategic actions carried out with Spain and which were followed up include promotional activities, roadshows in Madrid, Seville and Malaga, cooperation with CATAI, El Corte Inglés and Civitatis, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Andalusia and Castilla-La Mancha, which will promote projects in tourism, culture, education and the economy.
“This meeting symbolizes the vision of the Government of the People, to open roads so that more Guanajuatans can benefit from tourism, economy and culture. Spain and Guanajuato share history, language and values. Today we reaffirm that we also share a future of collaboration and growth,” said Lupita Robles, who accompanied the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo.
With this meeting, both delegations agreed to continue the joint work and strengthen the strategic relationship between Guanajuato and Spain, reaffirming the state's vocation as a national leader in tourism, innovation and international cooperation.
The Secretary of Economy, Cristina Villaseñor, and the Secretary of Culture, Lizeth Galván Cortés, also participated and presented the progress made in each sector and the opportunities opened up by the collaboration between Spain and Guanajuato.
