The Government of the People presented the commemorative agenda for the 500th anniversary of the legal founding of Acámbaro.

Few cities in Mexico can boast five centuries of living history. Acámbaro is one of them.
Therefore, the Government of the People presented the commemorative agenda for the 500th anniversary of the legal founding of the municipality, a celebration that recognizes its historical legacy, strengthens its identity, and projects its cultural, tourist, and heritage wealth towards new generations.
On behalf of Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, María Guadalupe Robles León, led the presentation of the activities that will be part of this commemoration.
“Guanajuato was born in Acámbaro,” the Secretary stated, highlighting the historical relevance of a municipality that has been a protagonist in the construction of the state's identity.
As part of the celebrations, a commemorative coin was presented, featuring representative symbols of its history and heritage, including the Colonial Aqueduct, the Goddess of Fertility, the Parish of San Francisco, La Fidélita, and the traditional Bread of Acámbaro.
The issuance of a postage stamp featuring the tourism brand "Guanajuato Abre Nuevos Caminos" was also announced, as well as a National Lottery ticket commemorating this date. These items will carry Acámbaro's name throughout the country and will serve as a testament to this historic celebration.
The agenda includes the Regional Fair and the Breadmaking Fair, one of the most representative expressions of Acambaro's identity. Likewise, cultural activities, historical videomapping, recognitions to distinguished citizens, and the unveiling of sculptures in honor of those who have been part of the municipality's history will be held.
Mijares, Banda La Adictiva, and the show Juntos, led by Jorge Medina and Josi Cuen, have been confirmed for the artistic lineup.
The Founders Event will take place on September 17, 18, and 19, where men and women who have contributed to the development of Acámbaro will be recognized, and the Founders sculpture will be unveiled.
The celebration will also allow the country to see the heritage richness of the municipality, represented by its Historic Center, the Temple of San Francisco de Asís, the convent of Santa María de Gracia, the railway legacy of La Fidélita, the Solís dam, the Sierra de los Agustinos, and the cultural heritage of Chupícuaro.
The Secretary of Tourism and Identity highlighted that this commemoration represents an opportunity to strengthen pride of belonging, boost tourism activity, and open new development opportunities for the families of the municipality.
“These 500 years are an opportunity to honor those who came before us, recognize those who are building community today, and open new paths for future generations,” concluded the Secretary of Tourism and Identity.
