Description:

This house, dating back to the late 18th century, was home to the Father of the Nation, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, in 1819, when it was known as the Tithe House.

The museum was inaugurated on June 6, 1863, and became a National Historic Monument by presidential decree from Benito Juárez. The Casa de Hidalgo is a crucial point in Mexico's history, as it was the last residence of the insurgent leader before the outbreak of the independence movement. Built in 1779, this estate is not only an architectural testament but also offers a glimpse into the life of the man who gave voice to the struggle for freedom.

The Hidalgo House Museum is part of a complex of historical sites that make up the Independence Route, a tour that has been renovated by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) for the bicentennial of the start of this important movement in 1810. Visiting this museum is an excellent way to understand the context and circumstances that surrounded Mexico's struggle for independence.

The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Relive history and feel the spirit of independence at the Casa de Hidalgo Museum, a place where Mexico's fight for freedom began.
