The Government of the People achieves closing 2025 with 60 % of those working in restaurants and accommodation services are women.

The Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the Government of the People accompanied the swearing in of the new Board of Directors of the Women's Association of Tourism Business Executives (AFEET) Guanajuato 2026, an act that endorses the leadership of women as the driving force behind the state's tourism, economic and social development.

The Secretary of Tourism and Identity, María Guadalupe Robles Leon swore in Ana Cristina Fox who assumed the incoming presidency of AFEET Guanajuato, while Loli Colunga concluded her term as president, leaving a stage of strengthening the guild, collaboration and positioning of female leadership in the tourism sector as part of the vision of the Governor, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo.

“Today is not just an inauguration. Today is a powerful affirmation: when one woman advances, we all advance; but when we advance together, we open new paths. That is the spirit that drives our Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo and that defines AFEET Guanajuato: an association that builds, protects and multiplies opportunities,” highlighted the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, María Guadalupe Robles León, who insisted on the central role of women in the transformation of tourism in the state.

The Secretary emphasized that the State Tourism Program 2025-2030 has as its axis a sustainable, competitive, socially impacted and inclusive development, where female leadership is essential for a more resilient and innovative industry.

“Since the State Tourism Program 25-30 we have set a clear challenge: tourism in Guanajuato must be sustainable, competitive, with social impact and definitely inclusive. Promoting women's leadership is not a speech, it is a strategy that strengthens the entire industry.”

Robles León said that tourism in Guanajuato has a woman's face, with data that reflect a structural transformation of the sector.

“Today, 60 % of those working in restaurants and accommodation services are women. More than 217,000 people find in tourism a source of employment and well-being, and one out of every thirteen people employed in Guanajuato works in tourism activities. Behind these figures are stories of leadership, family businesses and women who sustain entire communities,” she said at the event.

The Secretary recognized the role of traditional cooks, businesswomen, entrepreneurs and leaders in the sector, whose work has allowed Guanajuato to close 2025 with more than 23.8 million visitors and an economic revenue of more than 57 billion pesos, consolidating tourism as a real generator of opportunities for women and their families.

She also endorsed the institutional commitment to substantive equality and women's leadership, in line with the vision of the Governor of the People, reflected in an equal cabinet and public policies that promote women's participation in decision-making.

Robles León also highlighted the international context, pointing out that world tourism is going through a historic moment with women at the head of the main global organizations, such as UN Tourism and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), spaces in which Guanajuato already has an active presence and international projection.

The Ministry of Tourism and Identity reiterated its support for AFEET Guanajuato, recognizing the outgoing board of directors for their work and welcoming the incoming presidency, convinced that the future of tourism is built with leadership, collaboration and female vision.

“Because tourism is opportunity, and in Guanajuato that opportunity is increasingly written in feminine,” added Robles León.

The event was attended by national and state authorities and leaders, including Vicente Fox Quesada, former president of Mexico; Marta Sahagún, former first lady and representative of Vamos México; Claudia González, national president of AFEET; Miguel Márquez Márquez, senator for Guanajuato; mayors, municipal cabinets, industry representatives and members of AFEET Guanajuato.
