Guanajuato is forging new roads and establishing itself as one of the country's most competitive wine regions, securing the highest number of medals for Mexico with 26 wins at the International Bacchus Competition Madrid 2026, one of the most important events in the world.
The 26 medals are from Guanajuato, and Mexico reached 83 medals overall. Highlighting this achievement with 1 Grand Bacchus de Oro, 18 Bacchus de Oro, and 7 Bacchus de Plata.
This result takes on greater significance when one considers that the state has approximately 600 hectares of vineyards, accounting for 61% of the nation’s total vineyard area—a priority for the People’s Government led by Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo.
Guanajuato's performance reflects a growing industry with high standards of quality, innovation, and international projection, driven by the coordinated work between producers, winemakers, and the entire wine value chain.
These recognitions were the result of the work of 10 wineries from the state: Bodegas Vega Manchón (Cuna de Tierra), Bodega de Vino San Miguel de Allende, Viñedo San Isidro, Tres Raíces, San José La Vista, Cavas Manchón, Dos Búhos, La Santa Vid, Puente Josefa, and Viñedos San Lucas (Carrend), who, through their participating labels, position Guanajuato as a benchmark of quality in Mexican wine.
The Bacchus International Competition, endorsed by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) and organized by the Spanish Union of Tasters (UEC), brings together labels from all over the world that are evaluated by an international jury of over 1,500 experts, positioning this recognition as a global benchmark for quality.
These results consolidate Guanajuato not only as a relevant player in wine production in Mexico but also as a region that competes with international standards, strengthening its positioning in the global market.
The growth of the wine sector in the state also drives the development of wine tourism, generating experiences that integrate wine, gastronomy, identity, and territory, which translate into more economic opportunities for communities.
Guanajuato confirms that, with vision, quality, and teamwork, it is possible to forge new paths to the world, raising the state's name to the highest levels of the international enogastronomy tourism scene.
