The state receives an average of more than 198,000 Colombian visitors per year and 40% of these visitors come to the state for sports.

Guanajuato reaffirmed its commitment to sports tourism by presenting in Colombia the results and scope of its strategy in the golf segment, consolidating a key alliance with the Colombian Golf Federation and strengthening its positioning in one of its priority international markets.

The Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the State of Guanajuato, María Guadalupe Robles León, representing the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, confirmed that Guanajuato opens new roads to the world and strengthens high-value strategic sectors such as sports tourism.

“Golf is not a niche; it is a high-value platform that generates extended stays, higher average spending and a holistic experience that combines sport, hospitality, gastronomy and culture,” he said.

Robles León pointed out that Colombia is currently the third most important international market for Guanajuato. The state receives an average of more than 198 thousand Colombian visitors per year, who generate a revenue of close to 468 million pesos.

He also emphasized that one out of every five Colombian visitors who travel to Guanajuato is motivated by sports, which confirms that sports tourism represents a strategic opportunity for joint growth.

As part of this vision, in 2025 Guanajuato promoted San Miguel de Allende to strengthen golf tourism, with the objective of attracting tournaments, players and premium experiences that integrate sport, heritage and hospitality.

The state offers 10 world-class federated golf courses, consolidated tourism infrastructure and strengthened air connectivity, in addition to destinations such as San Miguel de Allende, which combine World Heritage, wine, wellness, gastronomy and exclusive experiences.

“Golf may be the initial reason for the trip, but Guanajuato becomes the complete destination,” said the Secretary, recalling that the state has two World Heritage Cities, wine routes, internationally recognized cuisine and world-class cultural events.

The alliance with the Colombian Golf Federation will bring Guanajuato's offerings to more than 14,000 affiliated golfers in Colombia, a segment with high purchasing power, international mobility and an affinity for premium experiences.

From Bogota, Guanajuato reiterated its willingness to attract more tournaments, consolidate strategic alliances and increase the arrival of Colombian visitors to the state.

“Guanajuato is investing, is betting and is ready to receive Colombian golf. We want more tournaments, more visitors and more shared stories. Guanajuato is opening new paths... also on the green,” concluded Robles León.

Jorge Lizarazu, Vice President of the Colombian Golf Federation, and Luis Iván Gallardo, CEO of Te Lo Consigo, as well as specialized and national media such as Caracol Radio, El Tiempo, Nación Golf, Canal Capital Deportes, Deportes RCN Digital and Claro Sports participated in the meeting where this alliance was announced.
