Guanajuato is aiming for two more international recognitions; this time, the heritage cities, Guanajuato Capital and San Miguel de Allende are the protagonists, having been nominated as best city in the competition.

The state of Guanajuato continues to consolidate itself as one of the most important tourist destinations in Mexico and the world, standing out with its two World Heritage Cities: Guanajuato Capital and San Miguel de Allende, nominated in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 in the best city category.

These recognitions are part of one of the most influential awards in the global tourism industry, where millions of readers and travelers evaluate destinations based on their experience, highlighting aspects such as hospitality, cultural offerings, gastronomy, infrastructure, and authenticity. Year after year, these awards reflect international tourism trends and preferences, positioning the world's most outstanding destinations.

The nomination of both cities represents a significant achievement for Guanajuato, which has successfully built a solid tourism offering based on its identity, its historical heritage, and the warmth of its people. In the case of San Miguel de Allende, its track record in these awards supports its international positioning, having been recognized on multiple occasions as one of the best cities in the world and even as the best small city in different editions.

Likewise, this World Heritage city has gained global recognition for its rich culture, colonial architecture, art scene, and culinary offerings, elements that have consistently placed it among the most important international rankings.

For its part, Guanajuato Capital, with its historical richness, its emblematic alleys, its cultural tradition, and its relevance as the birthplace of Mexican Independence, consolidates itself as a destination that combines history, art, and unique experiences for national and international visitors.

These nominations reflect not only the greatness of their destinations, but also the result of a strategic vision driven by the Secretariat of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato, which works in coordination with the tourism sector to strengthen competitiveness, diversify offerings, and position the state in major international markets.

Under the leadership of the "Government of the People," headed by Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, a tourism policy focused on identity, regional development, and the creation of opportunities for communities has been promoted. This strategy has allowed Guanajuato to consolidate itself as a comprehensive destination encompassing segments such as cultural, gastronomic, romantic, wine, sports, and convention tourism.

The nomination in the 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards also represents an opportunity to strengthen the state's international promotion, attract new visitors, and continue positioning Guanajuato as a world-class tourist destination.

In this context, the active participation of citizens and travelers is fundamental, as these awards are based on direct public voting, which makes each recognition an authentic validation of the experience offered by the destinations.

Guanajuato thus reaffirms its commitment to continue breaking new ground in tourism, betting on innovation, quality, and identity as fundamental pillars for its development.
