Explore the enigmatic Rincón de Parangueo Crater

If you are looking for a unique adventure in nature, the Rincón de Parangueo Crater is a destination you can't miss. This impressive crater, located in the Valley of the Seven Luminaries in Guanajuato, offers an unforgettable experience that combines surreal landscapes and fascinating legends.

Access to an extraordinary world

One of the main attractions of the Rincón de Parangueo Crater is its access. To reach the interior, you must go through a tunnel of approximately 400 meters, which is an exciting experience in itself. This route, in some sections squatting and guided by the light of small lanterns, prepares you for the surprise that awaits you at the end. As you exit the tunnel, a bright flash will force you to close your eyes momentarily; the view of the crater is comparable to a snowy plain, a landscape that seems to be taken from another world.

A unique and mysterious landscape

The crater has a diameter of 1.5 kilometers and houses a lake with high saltpeter content, providing a sense of tranquility and mystery. Around it, the vegetation of a tropical forest contrasts with the surrounding salt desert. This microclimate, which can reach up to 22 degrees Celsius, makes the inside of the crater always feel warm and cozy.

The salty sediments on the shores look like ice fragments, creating natural labyrinths that add a magical touch to the landscape. In the center, the reddish lake is not only a visual attraction, but also arouses the curiosity of visitors, making them feel as if they were on another planet.

Activities for all

Inside the crater, visitors can enjoy horseback riding guided by local horsemen, further exploring this fascinating environment. In addition, you will find a recreation area with barbecue grills and restrooms, as well as a children's playground, making this place an ideal destination for families.

A touch of mystery

In the region, it is common to hear accounts of UFO sightings in this crater and in the other six that make up the Valley of the Seven Luminaries. This mystique has attracted the attention of many adventurers and the curious, immersing visitors in an atmosphere full of legends and mysteries.

History and origin of the name

Before being known as Rincón de Parangueo, this place was called Camémbaro, which in Purépecha means “place of wormwood and stafiate”. The wild plants that grow in the region are a reminder of its rich natural heritage. The first Spaniards who arrived in the area gave it the current name of Valle de Santiago, and today, this place remains a symbol of the beauty and history of Guanajuato.
