A Parade of Catrinas
One of the most anticipated moments of the celebration in Yuriria is the Catrina Parade. This event brings together locals and visitors who dress with elegance and creativity, taking as inspiration the iconic figure of the Catrina, created by the famous artist José Guadalupe Posada. The streets of the town are filled with color and joy as the participants parade, showing their respect and affection for the deceased in a festive manner.
The parade is an opportunity for the community to express their creativity and pay homage to their loved ones through costume and characterization. The Catrinas, with their elaborate costumes and make-up, become a visual representation of the fusion between life and death, a philosophy celebrated in Mexican culture.
Local Gastronomy
The central garden of Yuriria becomes a meeting point to enjoy the local gastronomy during these days. The food stands offer a variety of typical dishes that are essential for the celebration, such as tamales, pan de muerto, atole and other delicacies that delight the palate. This is an ideal time to savor the authentic flavors of the region, while breathing the festive atmosphere that fills the town.
A Tradition with Meaning
Day of the Dead in Yuriria is not only about enjoying the food and the parade; it is an opportunity to honor and remember those who have departed. Families prepare altars in their homes and in the cemeteries, decorating them with cempasúchil flowers, photographs and ofrendas representing their loved ones. This tradition is a beautiful reminder that life and death are part of a continuous cycle, and that the memories of those we love will always remain with us.
