Description:
This emblematic temple is not only a place of worship, but also a historical scenario where the famous Grito de Dolores resounded in the early morning of September 16, 1810, marking the beginning of the struggle for the independence of Mexico.
Built in 1778, the parish church is a magnificent example of the Novo-Hispanic baroque style of the 18th century. Its impressive façade stands out for its unique architectural details, which make it a true visual delight. One of the most characteristic elements is the shell that crowns the access arch, as well as the stipes decorated with niches and sculptures that adorn its façade, offering a spectacle for architecture lovers.
Upon entering the temple, you will be greeted by the beauty of its two baroque altarpieces in the stygian style, located in the transept. One of these altarpieces is dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, while the other pays homage to Saint Joseph. Both present a fine wood carving that reflects the mastery of the artisans of the time. The lateral towers, which rise in three bodies that diminish in size, provide an additional touch of elegance and enhance the beauty of the whole.
The Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows is open to the public daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and admission is free, making it an accessible place for all visitors.
Immerse yourself in history and marvel at the architecture of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, a place where the past and devotion intertwine. This temple is not only a place of prayer, but also a symbol of freedom and resistance that has witnessed key moments in the history of Mexico.
