Description:
La Casa Grande opens its doors to the public only on weekends, making it a special destination for those seeking a unique experience. As you walk through its doors, you will be greeted by various pieces that narrate the daily life of a bygone era. One of the most outstanding treasures is a map from 1875, drawn by Ferdinand von Rosenzweig, the Austrian engineer who also played a key role in the construction of the Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City. This map offers a fascinating insight into the extent of the estate and its importance in local history.
Inside the Casa Grande, you will be transported to another era as you walk through its rooms. You will be able to admire emblematic furniture and objects, such as closets and brass beds dating from the 19th century. The kitchen, with its wood-burning stoves, will allow you to imagine the aromas and flavors of the traditional meals that were prepared back then. In addition, you will find a charming dining room that reflects the elegance of times past.
One of the most interesting elements of the Casa Grande is the black and white portrait of Don Manuel Cánovas, a key figure in the history of the region. His legacy lives on in this place, which witnessed his life and contributions. A very special dressing table also stands out: it was a gift from Porfirio Díaz to Guadalupe Cánovas on her wedding day, a detail that adds a personal and emotional touch to the visit.
La Casa Grande is not only a museum; it is a space that invites reflection on the past and history of Jalpa de Cánovas. As you walk through its rooms and contemplate the objects that have endured over time, you can feel the connection to the generations that lived here and how their legacy continues to influence today's community.
