Description:

This imposing building was built by the Discalced Carmelites and, during colonial times, served as a resting point for travelers. Known at that time as “Paradero del Carmen”, this place offered lodging to the servants of those who traveled through the region, as well as to the superiors of the order who arrived from cities such as Guanajuato and Valladolid.

El Paradero not only served as a lodging place, but also had two inns that provided shelter to other travelers passing through the area. When you visit this emblematic place, you will marvel at its 28 monolithic columns and 33 semicircular arches that are still preserved, silent witnesses of Salvatierra's colonial history.

An interesting fact about this site is that its name comes from a painting of the Lord of the Column that was in the center of the portal. With the passing of time and during the Reform Laws, this image was moved to the current Diocesan Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Luz, but the essence of the Paradero is still alive in its architecture and in the stories it keeps.
