Description:
A Building with History
In 1831, the palace was officially declared the seat of the State Congress, as well as of the Judiciary, the Council of Government, the General Accounting Office, the Tithes, the City Hall and the Secretariat. However, the original building was demolished in 1897 to make way for the construction of the current Palacio de los Poderes, promoted by Governor Manuel Gómez de Linares.
The new structure was designed by the English architect Cecilio Luis Long, who carried out a project that would combine neoclassical elements with influences from other architectural styles. In 1903, this space was officially inaugurated by the XX Legislature, marking a new chapter in the political history of Guanajuato.
A Cultural and Educational Space
In 2017, the Palacio de los Poderes Museum was inaugurated, which not only serves as the seat of state powers, but also offers visitors the opportunity to explore the history and heritage of Guanajuato. The building's façade, built with quarry stone from the region, is an impressive example of the neoclassical style, while its interior stands out for its Art Nouveau influence.
One of the main attractions of the museum is the Chamber of Sessions of the Chamber of Deputies, located on the upper floor. This room is illuminated by four cut crystal chandeliers and has five hundred lamps in line on the ceiling, creating a majestic and sophisticated atmosphere.
