Conde Rul Museum: A Journey to History and Art in Guanajuato
Located in the emblematic viceregal mansion that belonged to Diego Rul, the Conde Rul Museum is a cultural attraction you can't miss in Guanajuato. Inaugurated on March 23, 2018, this museum is housed in a neoclassical style building dating from 1800 to 1802. Its construction is attributed to architects Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras, Esteban González and José del Mazo y Avilés, and it has an impressive pink quarry façade that stands out in the surroundings.

A Space of History and Culture
The history of this mansion is intertwined with that of its owners. Diego Rul, a prosperous merchant, became Count of Casa Rul when he married Doña Ignacia, sister of the Count of Valenciana. This historical legacy is reflected in every corner of the museum, which houses a rich collection of art and culture.
The Conde Rul Museum has become an important center for the exhibition of works by outstanding masters of national and Latin American art, with a special focus on temporary exhibitions. The museum has 15 exhibition halls, distributed on two levels, where visitors can enjoy a variety of exhibitions.
Showrooms
On the first level, the first five rooms-Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras, Galería, Hacienda, Bohemia and Sala Noble-invite you to immerse yourself in the history of art in Mexico. On the second level, you will find five other rooms including the Sala Rul, Sala Real, Sala Carlos III, Sala Capilla and the Dining Room.
The museum features works by artists such as José María Velasco, Dr. Atl, Diego Rivera, José Chávez Morado, Luis Nishizawa Flores, Feliciano Peña, Olga Costa, Luis García Guerrero, Mtro. Jesús Gallardo and Javier Hernández “Capelo”. Also on display are large format landscapes in oil and inks by Luis Nishizawa Flores, who adapted the Guanajuato landscapes to his work.
The Alar Collection
Since September 2024, the museum has permanently housed the Alar Collection, which presents a remarkable collection of four centuries of ancient Chinese art, adding a new cultural dimension to the museum's offerings.
