Tumbagones

Disponible en: Español (Spanish) 日本語 (Japanese)

With a symbolism as fun as its name, it is a dessert made with a dough of wheat flour, which is hydrated with water in which green tomatoes were boiled with tequesquite (a kind of pre-Hispanic salt with minerals).

The name comes from the word “tumbaga”, which was a type of ring made of a very fine rod of gold and copper that was given to the friars as a sign of their fidelity to God.

Legend has it that, in order to eat a tumbagón, it must be grabbed with the little finger and bitten in half. This is the part where we all get nervous because they say that if the tumbagón breaks and falls, it means that the person is unfaithful! But don’t worry, The people from San Miguel de Allende says that it doesn’t just mean that you are unfaithful to your partner, but also to yourself.

Originally they only existed in traditional flavor, but they already exist for all tastes with flavors such as strawberry, chocolate, vanilla. What do you say? Do you dare to eat a few with your partner?
