Located just one block from downtown, the birthplace of José Alfredo, built in the mid-nineteenth century, was one of the first colonial buildings, since July 1982 has been declared a historical monument. The city of Celaya also has a Museum of Mummies. This museum is located next to the North Municipal Cemetery, it has a lobby with murals that explain the mummification process and 2 rooms where 23 mummies are exhibited. Along the 23 bodies you may find children, women, men and a goat. To complement your experience, you can request a guided tour or a guide with the legends of each mummy.
